Pedestrian bridge over lock

Temporary bridge for cyclists and pedestrians in Gouda

The municipality of Gouda has commissioned Janson Bridging to install a temporary bridge during the work on the Haastrechtsebrug. Cyclists and pedestrians will have a special temporary bridge over the Waaiersluis lock.

The Haastrechtsebrug will close for 23 weeks in early November for major renovations. The systems on the over 70-year-old bridge are very outdated, increasing the risk of malfunctions. During the work, the bridge will be completely closed to traffic. Cars and trucks will be diverted via the Goverwellebrug and the Gouderaksebrug.

Because many schoolchildren from the Krimpenerwaard area cross the Haastrechtsebrug daily, a temporary bicycle bridge will be installed over the Waaiersluis lock. "This bridge will prevent cyclists, including many schoolchildren, from having to make a long detour," says the local alderman.

Janson Bridging initially mapped the location with their 3D scanner. Based on these measurements, the bridge was designed, and it also became clear which existing components, such as fences and light poles, needed to be removed.

The work was completed according to plan, and the bridge is now in use.
